Richard Rubin is the guest
on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show. This is the
second part of my conversation with him about his great book about
World War One, The Last of the Doughboys: The Forgotten
Generation and Their Forgotten War.
In this installment of The Chauncey
DeVega Show, Richard continues sharing stories about tracking down
the last living American World War One veterans, shares his
thoughts about the famed Harlem Hellfighters, gives his insights
about traveling to World War One battlefields in Europe, and offers
some suggestions about how best to think about researching World
War One and travel abroad.
During this week's show, Chauncey is
vulnerable while talking about how the news media has "borrowed"
from his Donald Trump pro wrestling analysis without attribution or
acknowledgement, cuts a promo on MSNBC's racism excuse-making for
Donald Trump, and complains about a lack of etiquette by bicycle
riders and people at movie theaters.
Chauncey hints at a big decision he
had to make this week about his online work and writing, and then
proceeds to share his worries that his skin and other health
troubles are the result of being under a "spiritual assault" by his
enemies. In keeping with his meditations on religious
fundamentalism, Chauncey closes out the show by sharing a radio
clip from Right-wing Christian sex deviant bigots who are worried
that the movie Frozen is turning 4-year-old children into
"homosexuals".
