There are two guests on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show.
Yale University historian and New York Times-bestselling author Timothy Snyder returns to The Chauncey DeVega Show. He is the author of "On Tyranny" and the new book "The Road to Unfreedom".
Dr. Snyder explains how Donald Trump will--like other dictators and authoritarians--use his "national emergency" to overthrow American democracy and the Constitution, why "states of exception" are so very dangerous for democracies, and how the government shutdown reflects the right-wing's fake "populism" and mix of sadism and public policy to maintain power over their followers.
The second guest is Dr. John Feffer. He is the director of Foreign Policy in Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies. In 2012-13, he was also an Open Society Fellow looking at the transformations that have taken place in Eastern Europe since 1989. Dr. Feffer is the author of several books and numerous articles. His latest non-fiction book is Aftershock: A Journey into Eastern Europe’s Broken Dreams. He is also the author of the dystopian novel, Frostlands, the stand-alone sequel to Splinterlands.
Dr. Feffer explains the key global societal fissures which will create the dystopic world of the year 2050, how Americans and other people are buying into their own surrender and domination through "participatory totalitarianism", the ways that the corporate state will find a balance between pleasure and pain to control the public and subvert democracy, and what if anything can be done to stop the disaster(s) on the horizon which will create what he describes as "Spinterlands".
On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega ponders how cultural and personal malaise has kept the American people from engaging in massive resistance to Donald Trump, the Republican Party and their neo fascist movement. In one of the most surreal moments in a bizarre upside world that is TrumpAmerica, the Great Leader hosted a college champion football team and fed them hundreds of hamburgers from McDonald's. In response Chauncey DeVega explores the possibility that Donald Trump may in fact be the Hamburgler's evil brother.
And Chauncey DeVega was sick last week and in the interest of public health and public safety tries to discover the identity of "patient zero" who left him sick with the cooties.
